AppalCART Route Changes August 12, 2024
AppalCART evaluates our routes on an annual basis as we seek to respond to passenger concerns and improve our service. Last year, our buses encountered an increasing amount of congestion on King Street during peak travel times, making it more difficult to keep the buses on schedule. Congestion on King Street can delay buses as much as 5-10 minutes each round and impede proper spacing between buses on the same route. AppalCART has reduced the number of routes and vehicles utilizing King St to allow buses to spend less time in this very congested area. The following changes should allow us to be more efficient by placing our resources where we believe they are most needed.
Green Route: The old Green route has been split into two separate routes (Green and Teal)
Teal will be a 40 minute route with 2 buses (20 minutes apart):
The buses serving the Cottages of Boone will turnaround in the Peacock Circle to head back to the Cottages of Boone following the existing route to the Cottages of Boone and back. The Teal will only serve the NC 105 Lot on weekends, Break Schedule, and after 6 pm on weekdays (Silver will serve the NC 105 Lot during the day.). The route will cut back to one bus after 6 pm, on weekends, and during the Break Schedule.
Green will be a 30 minute route with one bus serving the East King St area:
The bus will serve Industrial Drive or Mountaineer Village on weekends and Break Schedule only.
A stop near Bub Teems Rd has been added to the Green Route.
Red Route: Split the Red route into two separate routes
Red will be a 45 minute route with three buses that are 15 minutes apart:
The buses will follow the same path as they currently do from College Street to the Beaver College of Health Sciences, Walmart, and back to College Street. The route will utilize two (2) buses after 6 pm on weekdays, weekends, and on the Break Schedule.
Maroon will be a 30 minute route with one (1) bus:
The bus will leave AppalCART and go directly to College St along King St. The bus will leave College St and head straight back to AppalCART along King St.
Orange Route: The Orange Route hours will be extended to 10 pm at night, Monday – Friday. Orange will run on App State Football Game Saturdays.
Gold Route: Remove the Gold from the Break Schedule.
New Stops:
Homestead Recovery Center (2554 NC 105)- Served by Pop 105 Route.
Bub Teems Road (Intersection with US 421) – Served by Green Route.
